CNN —Democrat Tom Suozzi is heading back to Congress after defeating Republican Mazi Pilip in the special election to replace serial fabulist and expelled former GOP Rep. George Santos. The result will further narrow the GOP’s already thin House majority and hand President Joe Biden’s party a boost as the general election campaign comes into focus. If not redemption, the New York Democratic Party in this special election earned a reprieve. As the storm swept through Queens and Long Island on Tuesday, Republican groups and the Pilip campaign scrambled to drive – literally in some cases – their voters to the polls. (Democratic Rep. Grace Meng from the neighboring 6th congressional district, and the area’s Asian American voters, delivered above and beyond for Suozzi.)

In 1948, Jews realized their wildly improbable dream of a state, and Palestinians experienced the mass flight and expulsion called the Nakba, or catastrophe. REUTERS/Ammar Awad/ Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK/LONDON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Travelers are canceling or postponing planned vacations to the Middle East and North Africa due to fears of the Israel-Hamas conflict worsening, and as touring companies have also altered itineraries and canceled flights. Travel operators say the war is affecting demand for travel to nearby nations including Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. German airline Group Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) said on Thursday their Middle East bookings have not been affected by the war, with only an initial dip when the conflict started. Spanish travel agency Essentialist said it has canceled 75% of trips to the extended Middle East and Northeast Africa region. The conflict's effect on travel demand to the Middle East may extend beyond the holidays and even just neighboring countries.

Whatever effect they have on the diplomatic front, Biden’s Israel trip and Thursday night prime time television address can only help his reelection efforts at this point, especially if he faces Trump. Some Republicans even offered grudging praise for Biden’s Israel trip. Of course, many prominent conservatives still found grounds for panning the Democratic president. According to Gallup, Democratic support for Israel has been sliding for years. Voters for now are giving Biden reasonably good reviews for his handling of both Israel and Ukraine.

Hours later, the president and his national security team were not confident enough to draw a final determination absolving Israel of responsibility. Had the early evidence examined by the president’s team pointed in the other direction, the White House would have been more inclined to reconsider the trip. But during a refueling stop in Germany on the way home from Israel, Biden told reporters on Air Force One that he had spoken by phone with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Advisers had appeared determined to reorient expectations before Biden had even arrived in Israel, saying that showing the powerful visual of American solidarity with Israel was a major goal of the trip. One adviser put it simply: Biden sent a “strong message to Israel, which was the purpose of it.”

God, my family and the people who came today, 75,000 people. The victory was a welcome one for Mexico, who had failed to make it beyond the group stage at last year's World Cup. CNN —Netherlands and Senegal both qualified for the World Cup knockout stages from Group A on Tuesday at Qatar 2022. For the Netherlands, a comfortable 2-0 win against host nation Qatar ensured its progression to the last 16, while Senegal earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Ecuador. Ecuador pushed for an equalizer, which would have seen El Tri qualify ahead of Senegal, late on, but Koulibaly’s strike proved decisive, ensuring his side reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2002. Buda Mendes/Getty Images Europe/Getty ImagesThe result means the Netherlands and Senegal join Brazil, France and Portugal as the first five teams to qualify from the group stages. Qatar, meanwhile, ends its campaign winless – the only side ever to host a World Cup and fail to get a single point from the group stage.
CNN —Yet another moment of Lionel Messi magic helped salvage Argentina’s World Cup hopes at Qatar 2022 as La Albiceleste secured a much-needed victory over Mexico. The 2-0 win certainly wasn’t pretty, with Argentina struggling to create many clear-cut chances against a stubborn Mexico team that itself also offered very little threat going forward. Messi came to the fore just after the hour mark to save his team, as he has done on countless occasions, finding the bottom corner of the net with a stunning strike from outside of the box. Though a win against Mexico on Saturday was crucial, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni will also have wanted to see a much-improved performance as proof that the loss to Saudi Arabia was nothing more than a blip. However, that performance never materialized with Argentina looking stale and lifeless for much of the game.
DOHA, Qatar—Judging by the swell of Mexico fans who flew to this tiny emirate, chanted on the local subway en route to the game and painted the blue seats almost entirely green here at Stadium 974—where there was only a speck of Polish red mixed in—there was no sign that the last couple of years haven’t lived up to El Tri’s standard as the dominant force in its region. No matter anything else, Mexico still has goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and its supporters arrive at the World Cup with the same expectation every four years: a trip to the knockout rounds. That’s exactly what has happened in each of the previous seven World Cups—and Mexico promptly lost in the Round of 16 each time.

Ceva mai târziu, fundașul gazdelor, Artur Crăciun, a primit al doilea cartonaș galben pentru un fault și a fost și el trimis la cabine.
